Petite Noir is the architect of Noirwave – a musical and cultural movement that draws creative energy from punk aesthetics and the fragmented identity of today’s African diaspora. The Congolese artist was born in Belgium, raised in South Africa, and is now based between London and Paris. His music melds indie, electronic, afrobeat, and alt-r&b influences. Previously championed by the likes of Solange, Dev Hynes, Foals, Young Fathers, Miguel, and a collaborator with Danny Brown, Yasiin Bey, Mr Hudson, and Saul Williams, Petite Noir now follows up his pioneering 2018 “visual album” La Maison Noir / The Black House with his second album proper, MotherFather.

There is something innately human about making art. It soothes us, heals us, moves us. Like a jaw relaxing after a tense conversation, our souls relax into a sound, a color, a textile. I hope you dance and sway and find more of yourself as you listen. Because I believe that is the point of sharing: It creates a moment for us to remember ourselves again.
